The Technocracy

The Technocratic Union is a group of witches and other magical beings that don't believe in Magic. Instead what they do is called Enlightened Science. Spells and potions are broken down into procedures, equations, and chemicals. Magic is fickle and capricious, while science produces results and is capable of duplication. While not ever member of the union is magical (roughly 1 in 10 is) every member of the leadership is magical in some way. They also use "hypertech" which is identical to enchanted items, some hypertech can be used by humans, while others need the "activation gene" aka magic.

Merika was born into the world of Magic but quickly got disinterested in that world, to many rules and restrictions and to someone born and raised an atheist, far too religious. So when she came of age she left magic behind and went to college where she came to the attention of the Technocratic Union. She joined the Union and moved to San Fransisco where she met, became friends with and recruited Jessica Stone. She uses her ability to "Program" the weather to be the best meteorologist in the city.

The hands on the CEO of the the Technocratic front known as Genetech Industries. As a member of the Progenitor branch of the Union he has preformed many in depths examinations of "outsiders" ie. demons and whitelighters. His natural ability to lead has also left him in charge of the San Fransisco operations of the Technocracy. He is slightly more forgiving of magic-users acknowledging that they often serve as the front line against demonic incursions, something he is fine in allowing them to continue right on doing. Genetech also makes many types of Hypetech used by the San Fran agents, and special hypertech drugs used a bit more rarely.
