Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3... (Charlie)

Lacey was back at the park where she'd first discovered her powers. Despite her Dad urging her not to, she wanted to see what else she could do with her powers, it couldn't hurt right? She made sure she was out of the way of the public, in a large copse of trees just off to the side of the park, so she wouldn't hurt anyone like last time, and stretched out her hands, concentrating hard, seeing what would happen.

She felt a crackling in her fingers, electricity bursting out of them and hitting a nearby tree, sending splinters of wood flying everywhere. She ducked down quickly, throwing her arms up so she wouldn't get hurt. "Yikes," she muttered, seeing if she was safe. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all.

Seeing as Charlie Halliwell was one of the only ones in his family who didn't have a transportation power (at least it seemed this way), he often escaped by going to the park and shutting off from all the constant magical stimulus he got from feeling other's emotions. While he had control over it, it was nice to just stop and get grounded sometimes. Going to the park allowed him to do this. It also allowed him to be hidden from other distractions that he would normally he would have at home. Well, at least he thought until this very moment, as he had been sitting in a tree... the exact one that Lacey's loose bolt had hit, breaking the branch he was on and dropped him a few feet to the ground. He would have made a sound, but it all happened too quickly.
With a little pain, he got up and dusted himself. Then, Charlie looked up in disbelief; “Lacey!? What're you doing here?”

Lacey let out a deep gasp when she saw Charlie rise to his feet and dust himself down, "Charlie? Oh my God!" Had he just fallen out of the tree she had hit? "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," she started, before she could stop herself, "I didn't mean to - I didn't know -" she said hopping to her feet, hurrying over to him. "Are you hurt? Did I hurt you?" What had she done?

“It’s alright!” he told her straight away, waving his hands about to reassure her and to get her to stop. “I was hiding up there, so it’s not like you were meant to know... but no, I’m all good,” and he smiled a big grin quickly. Then, after he had calmed her down, there was a pause and a sweet smile, now that he had bumped into her and all the worry was gone. “Sooooo...” he said somewhat quietly, then suddenly louder, “WHAT were you doing!? You could’ve killed me,” and he smiled anyway.

Lacey sighed with relief when he said he was okay, untensing, and slowly becoming calm again. Seeing as he was here, alive, and as cute as ever, she might as well perk up a bit, "I was," she cleared her throat, "trying to see if I could use my powers without wreaking havoc. Guess I can't," she said, then grinned. "How about you? Why were you hiding? Or who were you hiding from, hmmm? Not me, surely?" She smiled, looking cute and curious.

Charlie’s eyebrows twitched as he prepared for what seemed a serious answer, but then was relieved and chuckled a little at her attempt of power training. “Don’t worry... I don’t think it’s just your powers that cause chaos,” and he poked his tongue at her in a teasing manner. “But control will come with time and practise...” he left this little bit of advice as an opening if she wanted to ask any more questions.

He rubbed his neck a little and looked around, only to find nothing but the greenery. “I just, you know, come here to escape... but not from anyone...” in particular he was going to say, but Lacey had pretty much beat him to the punch. Then cheekily, he asked, “But what if I was? What’s it to you?” This was, however, a probing question to see if she liked him.

Lacey's mouth dropped open and she quickly took a step forwards, reaching out to tickle him quickly, before running back behind the other side of the tree with a grin, "want to rethink that?" she asked, poking her head out from behind the tree trunk. She saw that she was free to ask a question and thought for a moment. If her Dad wasn't willing to teach her about her powers, then who would. "How do I learn to control them?" she asked. She wasn't going to be able to do it by herself, that much was clear.

"I'd be distraught!" she said, overexaggerating it, "knowing that you couldn't stand to be around me. But if that's the way it is, then I suppose I should leave. I don't want to stick around if I'm not wanted." She turned on her heel to leave, a smirk crossing her face. Two could play at this game.

Charlie instinctively hunched over to protect himself from the tickling wrath of Lacey, while laughing at the same time – it was no use, she had got him. He leant up against the tree to catch his breath, but only for a moment, before answering, “What’s the point? You’ve just proven me right!” And he found her on the other side of the tree, catching up to her and tickling back. “That’s what I thought!” he responded defiantly to her being distraught if he hid from her. But then, she twisted his words and a shot of surprise came over him – it wasn’t something he had expected. However, by this point, Lacey had torn herself away and was on the other side of the massive tree. When she threatened to leave, he wised up and quickly shot out his arm, catching her hand with his, and in all seriousness, he said, “No. Don’t...” (leave). There was a moment of silence, where it seemed like both were frozen in time. Then, Charlie looked down and let go of her hand – he now felt extremely awkward. “Umm... so, like... I’ll teach you.” This was a bit random, but he was grabbing for something to ease his nerves...anything. “...Your powers? How to...” he stumbled, “ah... control. Yep” and he swung his arms by his side and shifted from heel to toe on the spot.

Lacey hadn't bee expecting him to react in that way, she'd only been fooling around. When he grabbed her hand to stop her, all of the hairs on her body stood up on end and it took her a moment to recover, realising what had just happened. "I'm not going anywhere," she said, reassuringly, giving him a small smile, before it broadened into a larger one. He was stuttering, she had to resist going aww, or blushing. "Yay!" she said with a bounce, trying to ligthen the mood again, "I wouldn't want anyone else to teach me." She grinned. "You know you're going to have your hands full though. I promise to try and not knock you out of any trees next time though."

Charlie had now gone a little shy – which was very odd for his usual loud-mouth personality. He didn’t say anything at first, just smile back at her, but Lacey’s charm relaxed him soon enough and he wasn’t so rigid. “Alright,” he agreed with her, although unnecessary. “I’ll do a quick spell and then we can start...” and not quite sure of himself, he started pacing whilst forming the words in his mind. But before he did that, he coyly told her, “It’s ok, I can take you on... After all, I’ve got a few tricks of my own,” and he smiled cheekily.

"Oooh, a spell!" Lacey said, suddenly excited. Other than freezing her body, and turning that energy ball on the demon, Lacey hadn't really seen any of Charlie's other powers; she'd had her eyes shut during the fight or had been causing too much havoc to notice. She wondered what spell he was going to do.

She grinned at him, "I know you do!" she said, remembering how it had felt to be unable to move her body, "I'd better watch my back," she smirked lightly, waiting for whatever this spell was going to be.

Charlie simply smiled at her reaction to the proposed spell. Deep down, though, he was worried about all the evil that could potentially hurt her. They needed to figure out what she was capable of, and fast. Lacey now needed to quickly demonstrate some control, or she could be killed or turned evil (if she was manipulated).
He then started his spell, “Ah... ok. Here goes...” he paused another moment and then said, “To let magic be taught in this open space, I call upon the ancient powers. Misguide those of human race, so we may practise for some hours,” and he shrugged, hoping it would work. The spell wasn’t fantastic, but it should do the trick... Then, yellow glowing orbs surrounded them from their feet, and rose above their heads, disappearing soon after. “It worked,” he said more confidently. “That should let us go for it without worrying if we’ll expose magic,” and he nodded to reassure... someone. “So... when you did... whatever; last week, what were you feeling?” he asked in a more serious tone. There was a pause for a response but then thought himself foolish, “...Or do you want me to explain how it works first and I can show you what I can do?” he asked a little more unsure now – he hadn’t really taught anyone how to use their powers... his other family members usually took hold of that, seeing as they were more experienced witches than he was. Nonetheless, he was still pretty powerful when it came to his powers.
